CITIZEU - The Impact of Euroscepticism in the construction of Europe

 

     

 

" The Impact of Euroscepticism in the construction of Europe", is the new project which has embarked our city under the program Europe for Citizens. The project will seek to bring Europe closer to our citizens, combining content as teaching civic participation through which to articulate a mechanism at local level to fight against the incipient Euroscepticism suffering Europe".

Along with Gijon in the implementation of the project it has formed a consortium in which are present five cities or organizations of European cities, in order to produce a multiplier effect, a territorial connection between different territorial areas and finally cooperation common towards a better Europe.

 

The project has received the maximum funding of such projects, 150,000 euros, expecting a period of implementation of two years.

As for the substance of the draft it will be geared to achieving the following objectives:

  • On one hand, the project will seek to link to citizens of six European cities to understand the European Union, in order to acquire a knowledge of its institutional structure, its history, its achievements and its system of multilevel governance.
  • On theother hand, it aims to promote one proactive understanding was the response of the origins, consequences, motivations and possible solutions boom Euroscepticism and the effects this may have on the European project.
  • In addition, this project has the goal ofcontributing understanding about the EU, its image, promotion of citizen participation, European citizenship, identity and tolerance and understanding of different European states.

These goals will be achieved through a tripartite system of actions to be performed by all project partners and its citizens:

1. Platform educational content online access to all citizens and free through which two MOOC courses will be held:

  • MOOC Course I: "Europe is you; Basic Course about the EU'

2. Platform online participa.gijon.es: "CITIZEU: Stop Euroscepticism"

  • Development of this online participation platform where one can generate feedback among all project participants (discussions, questions, suggestions, etc.), for the purpose of generating proactive activity in our citizens on European issues.

3. Celebration of five citizens dialogues in different European cities (project partners):

  • Transnational citizen dialogue among the participants of the debate and invited representatives of various local, regional, national and European institutions.The dialogues have the following objectives:

   • - Improve global knowledge about Europe.• - To promote public debatebetween them and between cities and states.• - To promote intercultural dialogue and new perspectiveson issues.• - To encourage the participation of citizens with disadvantaged circumstances(discrimination on grounds of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, or belief, disability, etc.)
